Nota de prensa

Intenso programa vespertino en el Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, con las dos primeras pruebas del CSI5*, la competición de máximo nivel internacional del concurso madrileño. La prueba grande, el Trofeo Marqués de Vargas, fue la primera puntuable para la clasificación de la Global Champions League en la sede de Madrid.

La prueba se disputó sobre obstáculos de 1’55 metros de altura, con un recorrido largo, de 13 obstáculos, con un doble de vertical-fondo y un triple en la línea final, de fondo-vertical-vertical. En el orden de salida, 44 participantes, 32 de ellos formando los 16 equipos de dos jinetes cada uno que disputan la Global Champions League, representando a las sedes que lo forman.
Sólo dos equipos consiguieron terminar sus dos recorridos sin penalizaciones: Berlín Eagles y Rome Gladiators. El primero estuvo integrado por Christian Kukuk con “Checker” y Philipp Weishaupt con “Coby”, mientras que el romano lo formaron Pieter Clemens con “Crescendo MB Z” y el mexicano Fernando Martínez Sommer con “Cor Bakker”. A pesar de la igualdad de puntos, en la clasificación final fueron primeros los alemanes, con mejor tiempo tras sumar los registros de los dos conjuntos.
Prague Lions, London Knights y Cannes Stars finalizaron todos con 4 puntos, clasificándose por este orden en función del tiempo, mientras que el equipo Madrid in Motion, integrado por el irlandés Mark McAuley (“Django Ste Hermelle”) y el español Eduardo Álvarez Aznar (“Full Option Van’t Zand”), se clasificaba en décimo quinta posición con 16 puntos (8 y 8).
El Trofeo Marqués de Vargas ha sido la primera prueba puntuable para establecer la clasificación final de la sede madrileña de la Global Champions League. En la tarde del sábado día 14 de mayo se disputará la segunda, estableciéndose la clasificación final por la suma de puntos en ambas pruebas.
El Trofeo Marqués de Vargas tuvo además una clasificación individual, en la que fue primero uno de los jinetes que participaron en la prueba sin estar integrado en ningún equipo: Pieter Devos. El jinete belga realizó su recorrido en 72’86 segundos montando a “Mom’s Isaura”, un alazán BWP de 14 años, hijo de “Tinka’s Boy”. Su compatriota Pieter Clemens fue segundo con “Crescendo MB Z” (76’07) y tercero, el alemán Philipp Weishaupt con “Coby”.

El Trofeo Mahou, para Simon Delestre

El programa vespertino del Longines Global Champions Tour Madrid 111 CSI5* se abrió con una prueba de 1’45 metros, el Trofeo Mahou, que finalizó en la ceremonia de entrega de trofeos bajos los acordes de La Marsellesa. Y es que Simon Delestre apretó a fondo en la segunda fase de la prueba para alzarse con la victoria sobre “Dexter Fontenis Z”.
El francés marcó un tiempo de 33’25 segundos en la segunda fase, disputada sobre seis obstáculos y siete esfuerzos, mientras que su más directo rival, el suizo Pius Schwizer, a pesar de arriesgar con “Casallino”, paró el cronómetro en 34’45. Tercera fue la griega Loli Mytilenou con “La Perla vd Heffinck” (34’49). El español mejor clasificado fue Manuel Fernández Saro, octavo con “Jano EQD”.
En esta prueba, disputada sobre Dos Fases, tomaron parte 43 conjuntos, muchos de ellos con el esencial objetivo de preparar el Gran Premio del Longines Global Champions Tour del sábado. Ello provocó que fueran muy frecuentes las penalizaciones por tiempo en la primera fase, lo que les impidió acceder a la segunda y decisiva.
La jornada del sábado 14 de mayo en la pista verde del Club de Campo-Villa de Madrid se anuncia intensa y de muy alto nivel. Además de tres pruebas del CSI1*, se disputarán, a partir de las 15 horas, el Trofeo Grupo Eulen, segunda y definitiva prueba de la Global Champions League y a las 18,30 horas, el Gran Premio de Madrid, puntuable para el Longines Global Champions Tour. El Longines Global Champions Tour Madrid 111 CSI entra en su fase más emocionante.

The Berlin Eagles powered by Fundis duo of Christian Kukuk and Philipp Weishaupt soared to the top of the leaderboard today in Round 1 of GCL Madrid with a knife-edge result promising thrilling action in tomorrow’s Super Saturday Spanish showdown.

One of only two teams to jump double clear, the Eagles pulled out all the stops in the first European stop of the Championship, finishing in a faster time than Rome Gladiators Fernando Martinez Sommer and Pieter Clemens.

Long-time member of the Berlin Eagles, Christian Kukuk explained: "To be honest when I walked the course I thought it was tough enough for the first day so I expected a few faults and then after the first two it looked quite simple and I was a bit surprised. But then actually following that we could see the course was quite tough today and I think in the end we can be very, very happy with our performance - we have two clear rounds. Only two teams with double clear rounds today so that definitely was a good start to the weekend."

Teammate Philipp Weishaupt laughed: "I haven’t looked at my phone yet to see what Ludger says but never change a winning team. So I think both horses jumped well they are not too tired they both felt fresh and jumped really well so I think we just keep it like this tomorrow."

With every point counting season-long tactics become ever more crucial as the Championship unfolds. Three teams head into tomorrow on four faults, with a further five on a combined score of eight faults, meaning the action will go right down to the wire in Saturday’s GCL Madrid final.

Set in the picturesque Club de Campo Madrid, Santiago Varela Ullastres’ course was delicate to say the least; the poles rolling at the lightest of brushes, and a clever challenge for the very best riders in the world.

First, to go, Rome Gladiators started as they meant to go on pulling out all the stops for a flawless double clear from Fernando Martinez Sommer with Cor Bakker and Pieter Clemens onboard Crescendo MB Z making it look very jumpable.

But the poles kept coming and current ranking leaders Hamburg Giants picked up a costly fault when Bart Bles and Comme-Laude W had the delicate plank down ahead of Simon Delestre and Tinka’s Hero having an early rail to bring it up to 8 faults.

Season favourites but currently sitting in 5th place in the Championship race, Stockholm Hearts powered by H&M We Love Horses looked on track for a beautiful from Malin Baryard-Johnsson and H&M Indiana but the last line caught them out having the combination and the last fence down. Lillie Keenan put in a star performance in her debut for the red team with a stellar clear onboard Argan de Beliard.

In his very first GCL team competition, America's young gun Brian Moggre and MTM Vivre le Reve delivered a foot perfect clear round as he punched the air through the finish line. While teammate Sergio Alvarez Moya clearly had team orders to set a rapid time he took the first fence on the sharpest angle. Alamo didn’t pick his feet up enough and 4 faults were on the board immediately.

But once again it was the U25 riders who led their teams with breathtaking displays of horsemanship. Mike Kawai (London Knights) delivered yet another clear round for his team this season along with Isabella Russekoff and Jumpy van de Hermitags for the Cannes Stars.

Super consistent Berlin Eagles powered by Fundis played the game to a tee with their dynamic duo leaving all the fences up and in a faster time than Rome Gladiators to fly to the top of the leaderboard overnight. Christian Kukuk with Checker and Philipp Weishaupt on Coby will be the last team to start in tomorrow’s dramatic showdown.

Valkenswaard United & Scandinavian Vikings both looked set for solid double clear rounds after Marcus Ehning and Geir Gulliksen made it look easy, but in a dramatic turn of events they ended up at the bottom of the leaderboard when both their teammates racked up heavy faults.

So it would be the Berlin Eagles who stole the show in today’s GCL opener, paving the way for a thrilling face-off in the Spanish capital. All the action will be streamed live, tune in via GCTV from 15:00 local time to watch the drama unfold.
Tres pruebas configuraron el programa de la primera jornada del concurso de categoría 1* del Longines Global Champions Tour Madrid 111 CSI. La de mayor dificultad fue el Trofeo Exterior Plus, disputado sobre obstáculos con alturas máximas de 1’40 metros.
 
La prueba se disputó al cronómetro, sobre un recorrido diseñado por el equipo del jefe de pista olímpico español, Santiago Varela Ullastres, formado por 11 obstáculos, con dos combinaciones dobles: un doble de verticales y un doble de fondo-vertical. Un recorrido que fue superado sin penalizaciones por 14 conjuntos de los 53 que se inscribieron para disputar esta prueba.
En la clasificación final abundaron los buenos resultados españoles y español fue el ganador: Gonzalo Añón. El jinete gallego se ha prodigado poco en competiciones en los últimos meses, pero hoy ha demostrado que, pese a todo, se mantiene en forma, al igual que su veterano caballo de 17 años, “AD Amigo B”. Gonzalo Añón estableció un registro de 61’77 segundos que ya nadie consiguió batir.
Quien más cerca estuvo de hacerlo fue otro jinete español, el asturiano Julio Arias, que con el alazán “Diago” realizó su recorrido en 62’31, mientras que la portuguesa Madalena Eloy fue tercera con “Forestelle des Cinq Chene”, tras establecer un registro de 63’81.
El hermano mayor del ganador, Manuel Añon, que también tiene muy restringida su participación en concursos por sus obligaciones profesionales, completó el éxito familiar con el cuarto puesto sobre “Elisa van de Helle”, mientras que Cayetano Martínez de Irujo ratificó el buen momento de forma que había evidenciado la pasada semana en el CSN5* CES Valencia, siendo quinto con “Dearest Diamond RS” y octavo con “Dito”.

El telón del concurso internacional de una estrella se había levantado a primera hora de la mañana con el Trofeo Club de Campo-Villa de Madrid, la prueba de menor altura de la jornada, con alturas de 1’15 metros. Fue disputado por diez conjuntos, de los que tres consiguieron finalizar sin falta las dos fases del recorrido, siendo el tiempo de la segunda el que cronometraba.
El ganador fue el jinete colombiano Jorge Humberto Gómez Peláez, que empleó en la segunda fase con “Dallas de la Bonnette” un fantástico tiempo de 27’69 segundos con el que distanció en casi 4 segundos a su más directo rival, la venezolana Daniela Stransky montando a “Romance du Criolo” (31’68). En tercera posición se clasificó un jinete de Estados Unidos, Sebastian Gray Loseff McCauley que finalizó la segunda fase con “Absolute Dream” en un tiempo de 32’24 segundos.
El cuarto cero de la prueba, que le dio el cuarto puesto en la clasificación final, lo consiguió una amazona española, Alejandra Álvarez Aznar, que ha vuelto esta temporada a las pistas, tras varios años apartada de ellas. La hermana de Eduardo Álvarez Aznar disputó la prueba con la yegua KWPN de 9 años, “Isba Caps”, finalizando su recorrido de la segunda fase en un tiempo de 33’56 segundos.
La segunda prueba de la jornada supuso el primer triunfo español en el Longines Global Champions Tour Madrid 111 CSI1*. Fue el Trofeo Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, se disputó sobre idéntico recorrido que la anterior, fue juzgada según el Baremo Dos Fases, pero con obstáculos de altura máxima 1’25 metros.
De los 35 participantes que tuvo la prueba, trece finalizaron sin penalizaciones las dos fases, protagonizando tres de ellos una dura rivalidad, con mínimas diferencias de tiempo en torno a los 29 segundos. La más rápida fue una amazona española, María García-Pertusa Bodega, que con su yegua neerlandesa de 11 años, “Gitalyn”, paró el cronómetro en 29’46 segundos. Con un tiempo de 29’71, fue segunda la norteamericana Carly Dvorkin montando a “Carlotta”, mientras que otro jinete español, Iñigo Fernández de Mesa, fue tercero con “Casper de Luxe” y un tiempo de 29’80.
